Simbang Gabi…Pavia Style

The Christmas Season officially begins every 16th day of December with the traditional celebration of Simbang Gabi Mass or Misa de Aguinaldo normally held before the break of dawn.

For three years now, it has been the tradition of Mayor Arcadio H. Gorriceta and his family, with the help of the various business entities in Pavia in sponsoring a “Libreng Kape at Pandesal” for the devoted church goers.

The aroma of coffee and the buttery taste of “pandesal” are enough to rouse anyone from sleep. The air is festive and expectant.

Coffee and “pandesal” booths are set up at the cafeteria beside the Pavia Gymnasium, complete with hot water and styrocups to ensure freshness.

But amid all these merrymaking motives, we should not lose sight of the focus why we are celebrating this event. Simbang Gabi marks the coming of Jesus Christ. It is not just feasting on “kape at pandesal”, neither it is about taking time out to have a date with your loved one, but rather it is about solidifying the ties that we share with one another and reinforcing our unity as children of God.
